Renewable Energy Companies in Africa

According to a report by the International Energy Agency, “Renewable energy will make up almost half of Sub-Saharan Africa’s power generation growth by 2040”.

The rapid economic and population growth in Sub-Saharan Africa is impacting energy demand. How Africa will meet this increasing energy demand is of global interest and importance.

In addition, Africa’s young population is increasingly more interested in sustainability. A few weeks ago, a group of people protested the felling of 100-year-old trees by the government in Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria.

Although meeting the growing energy demand will come from a mixture of energy sources, there is a push for a substantial part of the mix to come from renewable sources.

This has created a lot of opportunities for renewable energy startups as there is high growth potential in the renewables space in Africa. Some innovative renewable companies have launched in different parts of the continent and have already started on this journey.
